Charlottesville is in Virginia, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Charlottesville is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Mr. Stephen R. Christianson provided exceptional help and efficiency regarding my mother’s burial arrangements. The transfer was extraordinarily complicated, as her ashes were coming Β from the United States and required multiple prior authorizations from the French Consular Services in Washington. Mr. Christianson was truly effective in facilitating this complex process. Thanks to his efforts, my mother’s final wishβ€”to be buried alongside her husband and daughterβ€”was fulfilled with complete peace and serenity. Going above and beyond, Mr. Christianson even attended my mother’s burial. His dedication to his profession is absolute.

December 7, 2024: the Hill and Wood staff were extremely sensitive and professional in planning funeral service for my brother. The staff guided me through it with kindness and ease. Rev. Robert Lewis even came to my home because I did not have transportation to come to them. They were extremely respectful of the wishes I had for my brother. I cannot put in words on paper how satisfied I was with them. My brother loved apples, they went out and got the best tasting apples ever. My family and friends each had apples in memory of my brother. The set-up, the slide show, everything was wonderful. They went above and beyond----. I will gladly recommend Hill and Wood to anyone seeking funeral services for their loved one. Stormi did a wonderful job with the "business like" business card and the bookmarks. I could go on but I guess I've said enough. Thanks Hill and Wood.

The sudden death of my sister was devastating, and trying to navigate managing her estate and not having a clue was daunting. Robert made it that much easier. His graciousness, kindness, expertise, and professionalism was like a balm to my broken spirit, gently guiding me through the process. You took excellent care of me and my sister and I will forever be grateful. Everyone at Hill and Wood couldn't be nicer. Maryann never tired of answering my incessant questions and phone calls. We don't live in VA or else I would make my final arrangements with these awesome people. I highly recommend using their services if you find yourself in that heartbreaking position.

Hill & Wood Funeral Home did an inexpressibly stellar job helping my family through the most difficult week of our lives when Mom passed. The level of professionalism is top of the charts, and the level of compassion is beyond measure. Hill and Wood Funeral Home truly puts the value of "home" into their work because that's how they treat you, like a member of their own family in dire need. Krystal is an honorably wonderful funeral director and a true credit to this funeral home. She adeptly facilitated Mom's wishes for natural burial, was always available for us, and always forthcoming with any new information. Not only did she arrange and direct a fittingly, beautifully meaningful service for Mom, she also performed the difficult feat of making us feel comfortable, as though the only task required of us was to look after one another. The only thing we had to worry about was making sure we allowed ourselves to grieve healthily because everything else was taken care of. On behalf of my family, from the bottom of our hearts, I wish to express my sincerest gratitude to Krystal and the wonderful staff of Hill & Wood for everything you've done for us.

Hill & Wood staff were exceptionally sensitive, conscientious, and professional. Planning the funeral for my father was a difficult and emotionally painful process, but the staff here guided our family through it with kindness and ease. They were extremely respectful of our family's wishes, coordinated seamlessly with the rabbi, followed through on the details we asked for (including playing my dad's favorite music as guests arrived), and took care of all tech needs so that family members from out of state could participate in the service remotely. I thought it would be stressful to plan the funeral, but Hill & Wood staff took care of so much that our family really had space to grieve. I thought I would have a negative association with a funeral home after my father's passing, but every time I drive past Hill & Wood I feel only gratitude for the good people there.

Hill & Wood has updated the interiors that we utilized (in 2022). Lovely, lovely setting. The current staff is very positive and accommodating. I could not have been more satisfied with their service. Excellent experience!

The folks at Hill and Wood were very easy and pleasant to work with, in setting up the burial service for my wife's remains. They understood my needs, asked all of the right questions, and took care of everything at the event with care and respect.

Thank you Hill and Wood for taking excellent care of my mother. Your team was professional from start to finish. Thank you also to Johnathon (the funeral director) for guiding us through this extremely difficult process.
